Using some of my old/more recent footage, I made this video comparing the two different prime movers on New Zealand's DC and DBR class diesel locomotives. The specific locomotives that feature are DA 1431, DBRs 1199, 1254 and 1267 as well as DCs 4260, 4346, 4444, 4945 and 4951.
Both locomotive types are equipped with EMD 645 series prime movers, but the DBRs only have eight cylinders (V8) while the DCs have twelve cylinders (V12). For reference, the DCs are rebuilt DA (or EMD G12) locomotives. As for the DBRs, they are rebuilt DB (or EMD G8) locomotives.
