The Wind Challenger was developed mainly by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and uses a telescoping hard sail that harnesses wind power to propel the vessel. By installing the system, it is possible to reduce the amount of fuel used for operation, which is expected to reduce environmental impact and improve economic efficiency.
Once again casting a spotlight on the wind as clean and unlimited source of energy, MOL aims to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reviving sail vessels based on a whole new idea.
