Hello Friends!!!
I am Dr. M. Raziya Parvin, currently working as the Assistant Professor and Head, Department of History, Queen Mary's College (A), Mylapore, Chennai.
Throughout history and across cultures, while women rulers conducting warfare was common, women who participated in active warfare were not seem to be often. Even that is the case, there is a portrayal of women warriors in literature and popular culture is a subject of study in history, literary studies, film studies, folklore and mythology. Though outnumbered by their bands of brothers in battle, every one of these fearless female fighters has made an indelible mark on world history.
This is the first part of the video and it gives the portrayal of the role of Indian women who were exceptional warriors and those who actively led armies with an emphasis on the period between 11th century to the early 17th century India viz., Vishpala, Prabhavathi Gupta, Nayanika Devi, Queen Didda, Akkadevi, Naiki Devi, Raziya Sultan, Rudramadevi, Rampyari Gurjar, Rani Karnavati, Rani Durgavati, Ullal Abbakka Devi, Sultana Chand Bibi, Empress Nurjahan and Unniyarcha.
