I miss concerts. I miss the clubs, the festivals, the fog machines and the sleepless nights. I miss contact with you. I miss the endless conversations, during which usually you can barely hear anything, and sometimes you don't even know what the conversation is about - and suddenly it turns out that the constant asking about what someone said becomes the main element bonding the conversation, which has its perverse charm. I miss live music, listening to other artists perform. A total, total longing for art and the world of culture. I believe, however, that there will be opportunities to experience this strange phenomenon of rhythm and sound together in a safe way for all of us.
I've been working non-stop on compositions in my studio for months now, and sometimes it makes me sick to think that there's not much of a way to share this activity in a way that I've been lucky enough to cultivate for the past several years. So I thought I'd record clips from time to time, during which I'd play live the tracks I'm currently working on.
I got used to the fact that posters and graphics of all sorts display the words "Michał Wolski Live" from time to time. And this is how, in this not very sophisticated and original way, I will be naming my next videos. Moreover, each video will be titled with the name of the song that is being performed live, using synthesizers that I have at hand.
Coming up with titles for such a profound abstraction as music, however, is quite a challenge for me. That's why I like to use random name generators, dictionaries and other such "scientific aids". When I find a particular sound of a word or phrase, which harmonizes with the composition, I feel as if a stone fell from my heart...
And so, the first track is: "Flowery Sphere”.
This quasi-random name immediately played with the sounds it refers to. I invite you to listen, comment and subscribe - from time to time let me throw up another portion of sounds.
Thank you for supporting the mission!
Enjoy! 🏴☠️🌹
PS. Attention, now NERD TALK. A few words regarding the equipment that was used in the recording. First up is the modular system I've been building for years, and the Elektron Octatrack.
You will hear the following modules in the recording (in alphabetical order):
- Endorphin.es Furthrrr Generator
- Mutable Instruments Clouds
- Mutable Instruments Rings
- Mutable Instruments Tides
- Xaoc Odessa
And also a whole range of "auxiliary" modules, whose role is to modulate sound or process audio or CV signal (the order is also alphabetical):
- Doepfer A-106-VC Xpander Filter
- Doepfer A-138 Mixer
- Doepfer A-138m Matrix Mixer
- Doepfer A-149-1 Random Voltages
- Doepfer A-160-2 Clock Divider
- Intellijel Quadra
- Make Noise Maths
- Make Noise Rene II
- Mutable Instruments Viels
- Polyend Poly 2
- Xaoc Batumi
The whole track was delicately treated with reverb effects etc. in Ableton Live 11. And that would be it :) Once again: nice listening!
