A rum cocktail is a fun drink that is also easy to mix. In this video, Martin Cate from Smuggler's Cove, San Francisco, demonstrates how to make a popular rum cocktail: the classic daiquiri.

A classic daiquiri is a timeless drink that highlights the great flavor of rum. The daiquiri is easy to make, all you need are three basic ingredients—lime juice, sugar and of course, rum. To mix the daiquiri, start with half an ounce of fresh lime juice. For sweetening the rum cocktail, you can use castor sugar or simple syrup. Martin likes to uses simple syrup made with Demerara sugar, which has a rich taste with the distinct character of molasses.

Combine the lime juice, simple syrup and rum in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake well. Shake till you see frost forming on the outside of the cocktail shaker. Strain the chilled cocktail into a coupe glass and your classic daiquiri is ready to serve.
