The younger brother of the consul of 110, it was Aulus who led Roman forces to a nearly catastrophic defeat at the hands of Jugurtha. Aulus is historically significant, but not for the reasons that he would like to be. It is quite likely that Aulus is the only Roman commander to ever see his marching camp overrun by a barbarian foe and he was the first Roman general to pass under the yoke for a barbarian ruler in over 200 years.
