Shaka Zulu is one of the most influential figures in African history. He was an astute military strategist who changed the way wars were fought on the continent, and brought stability to a land that had been wracked by centuries of conflict.

Born into poverty but raised by his mother’s clan, Shaka began his rise to power as a teenage warrior fighting against oppression from neighboring tribes. As he grew older, he realized that if he wanted to lead others it would be necessary for him to unite all of southern Africa under one banner.
