David Read Winterburn, 60, was arrested Wednesday in Missoula's Westside neighborhood after a brief standoff.
Missoula police were dispatched to a residence at Burton Street and Toole Avenue after citizens reported a disturbance just after 12:30 p.m.
The incident triggered a precautionary soft lock-in at Lowell Elementary School.
NBC Montana arrived on scene just after 1:30 p.m. as law enforcement officers surrounded the home.
