Navagio Beach, or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as "Smugglers Cove", on the coast of Zakynthos , Zante , Ionian Islands, Greece. In 2018, Navagio beach was named the best beach in the world in a poll of more than 1,000 travel journalists and professionals. Navagio beach was originally known as Agios Georgios. A smuggling ship named Panagotis was wrecked in the bay, the wreck of which has been lying here and rusting for decades, it was wrecked in 1980 during a big storm. There were supposed to be several tons of illegally transported cigarettes and alcohol on the ship, which people from the surrounding area dismantled immediately after the disaster.
