I got stranded in Guatemala city and made the best of it. Flor de Lis is a nice a very restaurant in the Zona 4 , Guatemala city. What makes this place special is the skill in which they prepare the fresh local indigenous ingredients and its presentation. Each dish in the taster menu is based on a story from Mayan mythology which is recited at your table as the food is being served.
The restaurant is in the basement of an old colonial building, Casa Del Aguila. Maybe the location of the restaurant is meant to represent the underworld?? not sure. What I do know is that the descent into the space is like an opening scene to a movie, it sets a mood of whats to come.
I had many favorites but the one the one I keep thinking about was “ hombres Del Mar”; not only because the fish was sort of exotic (Giant Grouper) but the fish was perfectly cooked. The moment I tasted it, knew the care and skill level that went into it was high.


Flor De Lis has partnered up with a cocktail bar in the same building, Balam Cocktail Bar. This place takes the art of Mixology seriously.
