2021 was my third year selling stock footage on Blackbox and Dissolve and I want to show you what clips I sold, some of the technical details behind how I shot them, and my takeaways from another year in the stock video industry. Is selling stock footage still worth doing?
What sold this year was a mix of drone and aerial footage, footage from my cinema cameras, and clips that were shot on my cell phone. I want to transparently share these clips so you can get inspired for what footage you might have around that can be turned into a valuable asset to editors and producers out there in need of the perfect shot.
If you're looking to shoot stock on your phone, I highly recommend investing in Moment lenses: [ Ссылка ]
And if you're looking to up your drone stock video game, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is far and away my favorite: [ Ссылка ]
Stock footage has never been intended to be a major part of my yearly revenue - instead, it's a piece of the overall puzzle and it allows me to creatively repurpose clips that I've shot on other projects or random clips I collect during the year. And this year has definitely proven that it can be a nice little bonus.
Blackbox places clips on Adobe Stock, Shutterstock, Pond5 and Vimeo Stock. Dissolve is more of a boutique licensing site. I highly recommend you research the options that are out there and decide what makes the most sense for your expectations.
