WATCH LIVE : SADC exposes Mnangagwa 's lies on chairmanship.
1. 2020-2021: Following the resignation of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe in November 2017, some questioned whether his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa, should automatically assume the SADC Chair position in 2020. The 2020 Summit was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and ultimately, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique continued his term as Chair for another year until the 2021 Summit, where Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi became Chair as initially planned.
2. 2019-2020: Although the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was next in line for the Chair position in 2019, there were concerns about the political situation in the country. Ultimately, Namibia's President Hage Geingob remained in the Chair role for an additional year before Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique took his turn.
