With all the chaos going on around the world right now, take this opportunity to unwind with 6 minutes of serene footage of the majestic phenomenon that is 'aircraft vortices'. 😀
As plane spotters, we would often much prefer to be treated with blue sky and sunshine instead of low cloud and moist air. However, the latter conditions do allow for one of the most impressive specatcles out there - visible wingtip vortices. Whenever an aircraft wing is creating lift, "the air on the top surface has lower pressure relative to the bottom surface. Air flows from below the wing and out around the tip to the top of the wing in a circular fashion. An emergent circulatory flow pattern named vortex is observed, featuring a low-pressure core" (Wikipedia). As the air pressure in the core is low, so is the temperature - if the temperarture drops as far as the 'dew-point', the water vapour present will condense, this is what we can see. ✈️
