Sunday December 7, 1980 vs New Orleans Saints at Candlestick Park

In what would be at the time the greatest comeback in NFL history, the 49ers came back from a 35-7 halftime deficit to win the game 38-35 in overtime. I will never forget this game because I was there at age 12 with my father and we left at halftime because it was such a blowout. We continued to listen to the game on the radio and as the team's comeback was inevitable my dad said to me, "Son, mark my words. We are never going to leave a game at halftime again." Little did he know that in the coming years we would not need to ever leave early because the Niners were generally ahead at halftime! This was the NFL game that began the Legend that would become Joe Montana.

This clip contains a 75 yard Montana touchdown pass to Dwight Clark, a 20 yard touchdown pass to Freddie Solomon, a 10 yard Lenvil Elliott touchdown run and a the game winning Ray Wershing field goal.

The idea behind this playlist is to start the first highlight and let it roll through them all, or as long as you can. I spent many many years acquiring these highlights on VHS tapes and then copying pieces of each to compile a highlight film. This was all completed in the early 2000s. It is meant to jump you all around the 49er world through the end of 1998, after which Steve Young's concussion and subsequent retirement ended the Niners 17 years of dominance.
