With over 60,000 patients relying on University Health Network's (UHN) Toronto Western Hospital in downtown Toronto annually, having access to power at all times is crucial.
To ensure that the hospital will continue to run even in the event of a power outage, UHN decided it was time to improve the reliability of the emergency power system by making upgrades to the mission-critical backup power equipment.
In order to update the emergency power system, PCL needed to replace the existing generators with two new generators supported by a 153-foot exhaust stack all while working within the limited footprint of the hospital’s central courtyard.
