Welcome to week 1 of our Sprinter van conversion 🛠
Prep & Rust Prevention
We got straight to work cleaning out the interior, removing wall panels, the floor and the bulkhead to begin rust treatment. We were lucky that she came with very little rust, apart from a few small patches on the floor. We cleaned the floor of any excess rust, flaking paint etc, and gave her a good clean with a mild detergent.
We then applied two coats of Red Oxide on the rust patches and any areas of exposed metal (where screws had been, scuffed patches etc), before top coating with white metal paint.
The side trims on sprinter vans are notorious as rust hot-spots, as the clips that keep the trims in place aren't sealed and leak in water. We removed these and sealed the trims with Silirub, before placing them back on. Here is the Youtube video I mention in the video that we found really useful - [ Ссылка ]
Sound Deadening
Rust treatment out the way, we got on with applying the sound deadening. We used pre-cut sheets of Dodo Deadmat which made it easy to cut the sound deadening to size. We used a small foam roller to iron out any air bubbles and make sure it was nice and flush against the metal.
