Puss Moth Caterpillar (Cerura vinula) hatches from its egg.

This newborn caterpillar has twin pinkish tails with extendable flagellae which is used to startle potential predators.

At birth, this caterpillar measures less than 8mm long (about the size of a grain of rice) and will grow to about 80mm in the later stages.

The pinhead sized brown spherical eggs have a diameter of 1.5mm.
