During the Second World War, Hitler faced many different threats but many came from within his own military. One of the most infamous plots to assassinate the Fuhrer of Nazi Germany was the 20th July Plot, or the Stauffenberg Plot which planned to blow up the Wolf's Lair Headquarters. But one man who was involved in the plot, and who would have become the most powerful soldier in Germany was Erwin Von Witzleben. He was a very senior Field Marshal in the Wehrmacht, and he was noted for his unhappiness with the politics of the Third Reich.

He was even forced out of the army on a number of occasions because he spoke out against Hitler's plans for the Invasion of the Soviet Union. However he was seen as a key military leader, and during the war he was a skilled commander. But he became involved in the plot, and following it's failing he was arrested and was then sentenced to death. But his execution was brutal, and it was even filmed to allow Hitler to watch it back. He was taken to Plotzensee Prison where he was executed inside the execution chamber there using piano wire.
