Not all French curves are created equal, and trust me, I’ve tried many of them! My favorite patternmaking tool for tops is this specific French curve, the Lance FC-1 9”. This has been my tried-and-true French curve, and I’ve never wanted any others.
It’s such a simple thing. I find it super helpful to get those beautiful shapes as a starting point in your patterns. You may end up altering the pattern as you go through your muslin prototype phase, but this is always how I start.
One tip I can give you is: write your name on it, add a sticker or do something to make it not completely clear; otherwise, it’s so easy to lose it in creative messes (I mean creative flow states 😂) 😆 I also loop a string through and hang it, so I can always find it in its place.
