Her father, Ronnie, was married to another woman throughout his 16-year relationship with Driver's mother, Gaynor Churchward. "If I look at my history, what it did was make me want to be married so much and then choose men who were so not the right men to be married to," Driver explained. "So I would carry on longing to be married and to have that conservative version of a relationship, find men who had no interest in that, and then if one did, run a mile."

Before her relationship with Brolin, Driver was romantically linked to several high-profile figures, including her "Good Will Hunting" co-star Matt Damon. Their relationship ended shortly before Damon and Ben Affleck won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the film in 1998. In a recent appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," Driver reflected on that time, saying she wished she could tell her younger self, "Honey, it’s cool, like, you can celebrate, and life’s going to be great and beautiful and hard and amazing, and you’re gonna love again. "I have a big problem in the whole way that we’re encouraged to metabolize love, particularly as women," she said. "I think it’s grotesque because we’re not given very many options."
