Listen and follow along as Dr. Weiner introduces you to our brand new device called Tixel. We are the very first practice to offer Tixel in the United States, but it has been used in Europe and Australia for the past 4-5 years. Tixel is not a laser. It uses heat at 400 degrees to cause fractional coagulation zones in the dermis. There is less discomfort and less downtime when compared to a laser as well. The procedure you are viewing was done without any topical numbing creams or injections. Tixel is also much safer when working around the eyes because there is no risk of retinal injury. There is no need for corneal shields to protect the eye as is needed when using lasers close to the eye. Tixel is useful for improving skin texture and tone, pore size, acne scars, and fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth. Downtime consists of a heat sensation for about 1 hour, which is followed with redness for a couple days. The skin is not oozing and no occlusive ointments are needed. At about 4 days, there is some flaking of the skin, which is described as coffee grounds. Repeat procedures are needed for best results - approx 3-5. Tixel can also be used to improve pigmentation and sun damage. A full face procedure takes 15-20 minutes and it can also be used on the neck and declote with lower settings. Consider Tixel a safer version of an ablative laser such as CO2 - with less downtime, less discomfort, and less wound care. There are similar sun restrictions as lasers - at least 3 weeks either side of procedure and PIH is possible in darker skin types. In the photos you will see the treatment after 1 pass, after 2 passes, and then 18 hours after.
