Here's a quick exercise to help you pull the bow straight. It's super important to keep your bow straight in order to get the best sound out of your instrument.

Some underlying principles are.
1) The string WANTS to be pulled in the direction that it naturally vibrates. So give the string what it wants!

2) It doesn't matter which bow lane you are in, but stay in your lane. Zig Zagging across lanes is dangerous, and doesn't sound good.

3) There are lots of hinges in our arms: fingers, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.

4) We want to reduce how much we use the shoulder hinge.

Some fine print: Yes, we actually do use the shoulder a little bit to get all the way to the frog. So, it's not accurate to say we don't EVER use the shoulder hinge. However, it causes a lot of problems regarding pulling the bow straight if it's not kept in check.
