"But now for something completely different" might be a fitting Monty Python quote for this project - a completely different genre than usual, derived from a medieval Gregorian chant, a sung prayer. Although I'm not really religious, the special atmosphere and spirituality of Michael Patrick Kelly's performance finally inspired me after initial skepticism. Due to the enthusiasm (and determination) of my choir colleague Marion, we finally recorded it together - of course in compliance with all pandemic rules and hygiene concepts :-)
And maybe a prayer is not the worst remedy against Covid19…

The "Salve Regina" (/ˌsælveɪ rəˈdʒiːnə/ SAL-vay rə-JEE-nə, Ecclesiastical Latin: [ˈsalve reˈdʒina]; meaning 'Hail Queen'), also known as the "Hail Holy Queen", is a Marian hymn and one of four Marian antiphons sung at different seasons within the Christian liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. The Salve Regina is traditionally sung at Compline in the time from the Saturday before Trinity Sunday until the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent. The Hail Holy Queen is also the final prayer of the Rosary.
The work was composed during the Middle Ages and originally appeared in Latin, the prevalent language of Western Christianity until modern times. Though traditionally ascribed to the eleventh-century German monk Hermann of Reichenau, it is regarded as anonymous by most musicologists. Traditionally it has been sung in Latin, though many translations exist. These are often used as spoken prayers. (Source: Wikipedia, November 2020)
This cover version is strongly inspired by the performane of Michael Patrick Kelly & Jennifer Haben during the "Knocking on Heaven's Door - Cologne Cathedral Concert" (Full Concert: [ Ссылка ]). Some of the original verses have been omitted there, probably in order not to make it too long :-)
