Smokey Robinson wrote the biggest hit of his songwriting career not for The Miracles, but for The Temptations. Robinson knew that if he could get The Temptations baritone David Ruffin to sing something sweet, the girls would go crazy. So, he wrote “My Girl,” which has become an international anthem, recognizable from its first bass line. This memorable ode to love became a No. 1 hit and was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. Here's the full story behind the lyrics for "My Girl," one of the biggest Smokey Robinson songs of his writing career.
