Looking through my old work from zootopia and wanted to share my shot progression with you. This series of shots starring @alantudyk was so much fun to animate and it was also when I started blocking cartoony shots out using 2danimation I animated this shot the first time using my old layered method of animating and it just wasn’t getting the scrambly feeling I was aiming for.
Everything felt to labored and the motion was stiff, so I decided to block it in 2d and it instantly felt better. I’ve never looked back and I block out most of my cartoony and action shots like this now.
I find it helps me push the poses and appeal rather than just accept what the rig gives me. I’ve learned so much working for Disney Animation and with every shot I learn more.
