What is Adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis occurs when the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrial tissue) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. During each menstrual cycle, the displaced tissue behaves normally - thickening, breaking down, and bleeding.
Symptoms
• Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
• Severe cramping or sharp, stabbing pelvic pain during menstruation (dysmenorrhea)
• Chronic pelvic pain
• Abdominal pain and bloating
• Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
• Irregular or painful bowel movements
What are the risk factors for this condition?
• Age: Between 40 and 50 years.
• Pregnancy: Multiple Pregnancies
• Surgery: Previous uterine surgeries such as removal of uterine fibroids or dilation and curettage (D&C).
• Endometriosis is present.
