samjho vahan phaldar shajar koi nahin hai
vo sahn ki jis men koi patthar nahin girta

itna to hua faeda barish ki kami ka
is shahr men ab koi phisal kar nahin girta

inaam ke lalach men likhe mad.h kisi ki
itna to kabhi koi suḳhan-var nahin girta

hairan hai kai roz se thahra hua paani
talab men ab kyuun koi kankar nahin girta

us banda-e-ḳhuddar pe nabiyon ka hai saaya
jo bhuuk men bhi luqma-e-tar par nahin girta

karna hai jo sar maarka-e-zist to sun le
be-bazu-e-haidar dar-e-ḳhaibar nahin girta

qaaem hai ‘qatil’ ab ye mire sar ke sutun par
bhaunchal bhi aae to mira ghar nahin girta
