MOBILE/BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) Doctors say they are treating high numbers of strep throat patients in our area. Strep throat is a highly contagious virus that can sometimes be easily mistaken for the common cold or tonsillitis.
According to Dr. Oyler at Compass Urgent Care, one in every three kids with a sore throat is diagnosed with strep throat.
"Don't drink after one another, and if one of your family members gets strep throat, get rid of the toothpaste, toothbrush, clean the bathroom. Gotta watch all the cups plans in the house, because it will run right through the house," according to Dr. Oyler.
Some doctors are also reporting that the usual medicine to treat strep throat, penicillin, has not been as effective this year, and they are having to rely on other antibiotics.
