More than four weeks after the toxic Ohio train derailment in East Palestine, Norfolk Southern announced a six-point plan Monday “to immediately enhance the safety of its operations.”
This announcement comes after another Norfolk Southern train derailment happened Saturday in Springfield, Ohio.
The company said their six-point plan is based on the preliminary findings of the National Transportation Safety Board as they continue investigating the derailment in East Palestine.
"Reading the NTSB report makes it clear that meaningful safety improvements require a comprehensive industry effort that brings together railcar and tank car manufacturers, railcar owners and lessors, and the railroad companies," said Norfolk Southern President and CEO Alan Shaw. "We are eager to help drive that effort and we are not waiting to take action."
