Good friend of mine, Dionne Mascunanabear stopped by the shop today to drop off some gear that he used while filming the SEMA show in Las Vegas for Drivingline.
Instead of driving his widebody Smart or an Alpine White BMW M4, he came on his Honda CBR1000RR in quite the style. A 1000CC Honda CBR wrapped in a beautiful satin white finish. Of course it was dressed with all of sorts of exquisite carbon racing pieces.
Although it was late and the shop was already closed, I knew that I had to photograph the bike in it's current state. So I grabbed the following gear for this shoot:

Canon 5d Mark III
Canon 24mm 1.4 Mark II
ePhoto 900 LED panel
Paul C Buff Vagabond
Manfrotto 550xprob Tripod
496RC2 Ballhead
Typically I wouldn't shoot cars/bikes with a 24mm due to the distortion but it was late and I didn't want to stand in the middle of the street so I did what had to make the shot work. To be honest, I ended up regretting using the 24mm because it took me an extra 45 mins to fix the barrel distortion. If I had grabbed a 85mm, I would have saved myself a lot of grief but it is what it is.
Here are the settings I used for this shot:
F/22.0
SS 6secs
ISO50
With the Vagabond powering the 900 LED panel, it was an easy and portable way to walk around the bike without having to be plugged into an electric outlet. Cords and outlets are additional ways to bring stress into your life and I am not about that life.
I ended up lighting the bike from all angles and also backlit it for some cool effects that I ended up not using in the final composite.
Check out the BTS video shot with our Sony A7s and the Canon 24mm 1.4 Mark II on our Varavon Birdycam2.
