Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government would move ahead with the controversial change to the country’s judicial system, AP News reports.
Netanyahu said negotiations between the government and opposition parties failed to find a compromise solution.
Earlier this year, Netanyahu’s government had to put the proposed overhaul on hold after it faced harsh opposition and mass demonstrations.
The overhaul would restore power to elected officials while weakening the Supreme Court, Critics claim it would push the country towards authoritarianism.
