What are Poetic Devices?
Poetic devices are deliberate use of words, sounds, phrases, and even shapes to convey meaning.
So these poetic devices infuse literal meanings with #figurative meanings to improve writing styles.
Common Types Poetic Devices
Allegory
A strong poem or other written piece of paper that needs interpretation for secondary meaning. For example, George Orwell’s Animal Farm
Allusion
It is an indirect inference to something. For example, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird
Apostrophe
It is a #poeticdevice where the writer addresses a person or a thing that is not present with an exclamation mark. For example, Billy Collins “To a Stranger Born In Some Distant #Country Hundreds of Years From Now”
#Consonance
It is the repetition of some consonant sounds or phrases. For example, William Blake,” The Tyger”.
Irony
The irony is the exaggeration to convey a meaning opposite to what is being said. For example, Romeo and Juliet
Pun
A pun is a play of words, using multiple meanings for humor. For example, Lewis Caroll, Alice’s Adventures in #Wonderland
Rhyme
Rhyme is a repetition of syllables at the ends of words or lines of poetry. For example, “NBy the ends of the sea; you’ll be loved by me.”
