Active learning is a teaching- and learning principle backed by science. The main idea is that new knowledge needs to be exercised, or it will get lost.
Your working memory needs to transfer the new insights to long-term memory. And you need to work with the new to make that happen.
An easy way to do active learning is to explain what you learn to someone else. This activates "retrieval" of information and makes the new knowledge stick.
