The Mountain is a culminating worship experience where the Pepperdine community can unite as one body of believers to worship our Heavenly Father and celebrate all that God has done in and through us during the academic year at Pepperdine University. Each year, we invite a well-known worship artist (Jesus Culture and All Sons & Daughters in the past) to lead our community in a night of worship. This event has generated much interest, with over 1,500 attendees each year, and is strategically placed in mid April, in order for it to become an “end of year celebration” type of event. The Mountain is an excellent opportunity for Pepperdine students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community to unite under the common banner of worshipping Jesus Christ. Moreover, the event draws attention from family, friends, alumni, prospective students, local churches, and the Greater LA community.
This year, we are inviting well-known Christian artist Phil Wickham to lead us in worship. Native to California, Phil started music from a young age, eventually leading his youth group in worship at the age of 12. His first independent project was released in 2002, and garnered enough attention to get him a deal with the Simple Records label. After releasing five internationally successful albums with them, he switched over to Fair Trade Services in 2011, and has since released another 4 albums. His repertoire includes worship songs widely used in churches such as “This is Amazing Grace,” “Cannons,” and “After Your Heart.” We are excited to host Phil and his band this April, which happens to coincide with the release of his next album, the highly anticipated Children of God. We will also will be highlighting Pepperdine student worshippers through means such as dance, art, and more!
Anyone is welcome to attend the worship night and join in our celebration of worship, regardless of whether or not you are affiliated with Pepperdine. Food trucks are available for those who want to eat dinner on the beautiful Alumni Park overlooking the ocean. We’ve also hosted a number of visitors from church groups, local universities, and high school groups. If you have a large group or have any specific questions, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to help set up large group discounts, local housing options, and more.
