IKEA has launched its first in-mall store in India, making it the third store in Mumbai and the fifth in India. However, with over 21 million people as target market here, the company is experimenting for more touchpoints and stores in the megacity where it has already added 400,000 families as its members.

With newer stores in the pipeline, the company expects share of in-store purchases to rise in the total sales. In an interaction with ET Now, IKEA India CEO Susanne Pulverer said that the company registered a 37-percent share from online sales during the pandemic years which has now declined to 30-percent as more customers are choosing to experience and make purchases from the physical stores. Meanwhile, the company is now focusing on building an omnichannel presence.

IKEA India's CFO Murali Iyer shared that the company is planning to double its touchpoints in the next 2-3 years in India. While currently, products amounting to 27% of the sales are locally sourced, the company plans to take it to 50% in near future.

On the sustainability front, the company is looking to increase its dependency on renewable energy and is also in search of a partner for electric vehicles for deliveries.

IKEA's new store in Mumbai, at R-city Mall in Ghatkopar, is spread across 72,000 sq ft area and showcases 15 room setups, over 7,000 products, and 2 complete homes based on local requirements.
