According to a report released by "IHS Screen Digest" in 2012, movie studios will move completely away from 35mm projection prints - replacing them with digital projection - by the end of 2013, for "major markets" (US, UK, France, Australia, and Japan). The same report predicts that these studios will stop making film prints for the other markets by 2015. Is film dead? Do you care? The move away from film projection does not mean that all production on film will cease, however, since there are still directors and cinematographers who swear by the older medium. Where do you stand? With the advent of more sophisticated digital cameras, can you even tell the difference? In this presentation, we will look at 10 films of the past few years and see which ones were shot on film and which ones were shot digitally. You may be surprised.
The idea for this presentation grew out of my thoughts in reaction to the 2012 movie Side by Side ([ Ссылка ]), which I and two colleagues had recently discussed on Baltimore’s NPR affiliate station, WYPR, with that movie’s director ([ Ссылка ]), and the presentation includes a few still images from the film, as well.
