The top story for Today's National Weather Forecast is the major winter storm sitting over California which has the potential to bring three more inches of rain to the Bay Area, over 5 more inches of rain to the Central Coast, and a total of 7-10ft of snow to the Sierras. The storm appears to have strengthened and will continue to stall over California through Friday, leading to massive rain and snow accumulations. There is a blizzard warning in the Sierras, while a concern remains for flash flooding/debris flows in the lower elevations due to the combination of heavy rain and burn scars. According to the Weather Channel, this storm is now going by the name Winter Storm Orlena.
As Winter Storm Orlena moves out of California, it will spread across the country bringing major snowfall accumulations to parts of the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic. Key states to feel impacts from this Major Winter Storm will be Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. So basically, Orlena is bringing large amounts of snow to a lot of different places. The Southeast will mostly miss out on this storm, but parts of Georgia and South Carolina should pick up an inch or two of rain.
