The village transformed into a museum.
The charming village of Genalguacil lies in the Serranía de Ronda, some 30 kilometres inland from Estepona, 45 kilometres from Ronda itself and 125 kilometres from Málaga. It may have a small population of around 500 residents, but it is certainly not a sleepy hamlet as it has some rather special attractions that draw visitors to this unique ‘pueblo blanco’. The best loved of these is the art festival that is held every two years, an event that has earned Genalguacil the designation of ‘town-museum.’ Artists gather in the village to create different pieces of work, which they leave on permanent exhibition in the streets ensuring visitors to the village will enjoy strolling through this open-air show, where even every doorway and street sign has been given some form of artistic flourish. It also sits amid one of the most beautiful nature parks in Andalucía, which is another reason to visit.
