In the 12 years since BBC Three launched, the TV landscape and the way viewers consume media –younger viewers particularly – has changed dramatically. As such, the corporation argues that by closing the linear broadcast channel BBC Three, it will be able to serve young people with content they want – long and short form video, photography, audio, graphics and text articles – 24/7. What’s more, they will be freed from the constraints a 7pm to 4am linear schedule presents. But not everyone’s happy, as evidenced by the #SaveBBC3 campaign. The session will explore what closing the linear channel means for the industry and viewers; the threats and opportunities it presents, and explores in detail Damian Kavanagh’s vision for the new BBC Three.
