Stephanie was horseback riding when her horse spooked, turned around quickly, and threw her off. She suffered a spinal cord injury and was airlifted to UVA Health. After her life was saved, her daughters conducted research about the best place for their mom to receive physical rehabilitation and they chose Sheltering Arms Institute. When Stephanie first arrived, she could not move either her legs or arms. Now, she's regaining function with help from her care team and our advanced technology.
"Every day, I feel like this is miraculous. I think the technology is really helpful and the therapists push you just far enough so that you're working as hard as you can...They're just there for you every step of the way," Stephanie said. "Now I wake up and I go, okay, I got this stuff to do, I'm getting better, I can do it. Now, I feel like I can do this and I can make progress. I would say that's the best."
