FLORIDA SURPASSES 5,000 COVID-19 DEATHS: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis holds a news conference on the coronavirus outbreaks as the state sees over 10,000 new cases for the sixth consecutive day. According to a CNBC analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University, Florida has reported over 11,865 new coronavirus on average over the past seven days, which is up 29% from a week ago. Hospitalizations are also increasing, as Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration reports that 49 hospitals across the state have no more ICU availability. On Saturday, DeSantis told the press ‘I think fear is our enemy here, and I think that if we approach this with a steady resolve, I think we’re going to handle it much, much better.’ This comes as the state surpasses 5,000 coronavirus deaths since March. Rep. Donna Shalala, who serves one of the hardest hit communities of Miami-Dade County, told ABC News this weekend that ‘the residents here are terrified...because there’s a lack of leadership. It’s terrible. We have community spread, which means the virus is out of control.’
