This student came to me after being at University studying voice. He had no vibrato, no idea how to breathe, no falsetto and a very weak chest voice. His voice was aspirated and constricted at the same time. The idea of how to cover for high notes was completely foreign. This is after about 1.5 years vis Skype lessons. He is progressing greatly.
The before recording was in a small 50 seat space. The two after clips are in an 180 seat recital space. The reverb is the ambient sound of the hall.
Interestingly, smaller, airier voices record better on modern day equipment because recording equipment now it made to condense the sound and make up for lack of voice. So it takes out the airiness and condenses it making it sound bigger and clearer than it actually is in person. It has the opposite affect on better, bigger, more focused voices. It cannot handle the "squillo" or overtones and power so it tends to diffuse it and distorts it. So the difference in the before and after is in reality much greater than the recording shows because the modern equipment makes the before sound better than it was and the after sound not as good as it is in person.
There is still a lot of development to do, but this represents the effectiveness of proper vocal training.
