Yesterday, I intervened in the Queen's Speech debate on Health, to raise the great success of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who run Kingsmill and Mansfield Community Hospitals, and congratulate them for their hard work in securing a nomination for NHS Trust of the Year. An amazing turn around from the position they were in a few short years ago and a testament to the hard work of their amazing staff.
Unrelated to hospitals, but I also wanted to ask the Health Secretary about his Green Paper (Parliamentary version of an action plan really) from earlier this year on health inequalities including smoking. We have the 4th highest rate of smoking anywhere in the country (23.1%) and I think our health, our healthcare costs and our lives overall in Mansfield would benefit from strong action to support people who want to quit. It wouldn't cost much to at least make more information available in a targetted way about all the alternatives that exist, but it would save our NHS lots of money and improve the state of our health.
