Following the removal of government control over COVID-19 vaccines from May 1, the Serum Institute of India (SII) has announced the price of its Covishield vaccine. The Pune based manufacturer has priced the vaccine at Rs 400 per dose for the state governments. The price of the vaccine at private hospitals will be Rs 600 per dose. Currently, the vaccine costs Rs 250 at a private hospital, a price fixed by the central government. SII claims that their vaccine is cheaper when compared to other vaccines in the world.
. American vaccines - Rs 1500
. Russian vaccines - Rs 750
. Chinese vaccines - Rs 750
50% of the Covishield vaccines produced will be given to the central government's
vaccination program. The remaining 50% will be sold to state governments and private hospitals. The central government has allowed vaccination of all persons above the age of 18 from May 1. The government’s aim is to control the virulent second wave of COVID-19 infections with the vaccine drive. Government plans to inoculate 30 crore adults in the country by August. But as of now, only 8% have got one dose while 1% have been fully inoculated. The Centre has also approved Rs 3000 crores as an advance to SII for increasing their supplies.
