The newly opened East West Metro, also named as Kolkata Metro Line 2 is a rapid transit line of the Kolkata Metro. This line connects Teghoria(Haldiram) to Howrah Maidan via Saltlake and Sealdah by going beneath the Great Holy River Hooghly. This section would consist of 17 stations from Teghoria in the east to Howrah Maidan in the west, of which 11 would be elevated and 6 would be underground, covering a total distance of 22 km. It connects Kolkata's two largest Busiest Railway Stations Howrah Junction and Sealdah Junction with two busiest business sectors BBD BAGH and SALTLAKE SECTOR V and this section is expected to deliver a very high ridership. Now East West Metro runs regularly from Saltlake Stadium to Saltlake Sector-V and runs at a regular interval of 20 minutes. It has now 6 Stations:-
1. Saltlake Sector-V
2. Karunamoyee
3. Central Park
4. City Centre
5. Bengal Chemical
6. Saltlake Stadium(terminal)
In future the East West Metro Service from Howrah Maidan to Teghoria will start fully. It's India's first underwater service and was Inaugurated Union railway minister Mr. Piyush Goyal on 13th February 2020 and commercial services started from 14th February 2020.
