Frontal collision Peugeot 206 against a post at 57 km/h
In the crash test a Peugeot 206 with 57 km/h and 100 mm offset to the left is driven against a 200 x 200 mm steel post. Compared with the frontal impact at 50 km/h required for homologation, the impact speed is 7 km/h higher and compared with the collision with the Smart, the vehicle mass of 1025 kg is also higher. This means that the impact energy of 133 kJ is 1/3 higher than in the case of the Smart. In the collision, the front cross-member is crushed and the engine behind it is forced into the passenger compartment. The lateral load paths such as longitudinal spars are not involved in the energy absorption. As a result, the passenger cell, especially in the footwell, experiences severe intrusions. Due to the lack of force support and the centrally concentrated force application, the passenger cell collapses in the impact area.
