With Sony’s annual ‘Playstation Experience’ event just around the corner, what can we expect to see from Square Enix? Or should I say, what can we hope to see?
Final Fantasy VII Remake
At the end of the FFVII reveal trailer, it read “More to come this winter”, and in an interview with Dengeki Online, Director, Tetsuya Nomura reiterated “Sometime during the winter, we’re planning to have a follow-up report. I believe we’re going to announce the official title, at least, but as for other details, we’re in the process of determining what we’re going to put out.”
Whether this update will takes place at Playstation Experience is unknown. We also have Jump Festa later in december to look forward to. Winter in the Japanese calendar lasts from December 1st - February 29th. So these 2 events seem likely, but equally, they could put on their own event, such as their Active Time Reports.
As for what we may see: Possibly a new trailer, or an updated version of what we’ve already seen. As spectacular as the E3 trailer was, Nomura stated that it was still a work in progress, and that even more detail was to be added.
It is doubtful that gameplay will be shown, since they’ll likely want to keep it under wraps for the time being, since it is a work in progress. But maybe they’ll show screenshots of characters or environments. Or maybe some character renders for us all to drool over.
A PS4 port of FFVII was announced at PS Experience last year, in what many believe to have been a huge trolling exercise. Originally planned for an October release, the port is still nowhere in sight. So what is the hold up? Could they be planning something special? Maybe a brand new translation? Maybe touched up, high res backgrounds? These would certainly be big draws for a lot of fans of the original. Enough for them to put the resources in? Who knows? They did however release the trophy list for the port, which seems to suggest an imminent release date.
Now on to Final Fantasy XV
During an interview with VGTime, director Hajime Tabata revealed that Final Fantasy XV will be appearing at a Japanese event “not too far from now”. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but this would suggest an appearance at Jump Festa. He did say that a new, smaller demo was being put together for the event. Earlier in the year Tabata stated that the next Active time report may also be at the end of the year, so it is likely that this could be at Jump Festa.
As for what else could make an appearance, World of Final Fantasy seems likely, and possibly a few glimpses of Kingdom Hearts 3… maybe...
But one title many fans have been waiting for is the illusive, long rumored FFXII HD remaster. Could they finally announce it?
We’ll have to wait and see. Playstation Experience takes place on 5th and 6th of December, and we’ll be streaming any Square Enix coverage. To keep up with what’s happening, be sure to join us at thelifestream.net, or follow us on facebook.
