Project Gambia Trustee, Lynne Mcdonald, enjoying lunch with the children at St. John’s School for the Deaf. All Project Gambia volunteer aid workers eat with the children when in Africa. When Lynne was asked to comment on her meal she replied that “the pupils receive a balanced and nutritious meal; a meal that the parents, for the most part, are simply unable to provide for them at home on account of the overwhelming poverty that provides the context to their home lives”. Meat, chicken, beef and fish are served with rice in African sauces. Little wonder the pupils love their lunchtime at St John’s School for the Deaf”.
Mary Ann Allen, Depute Head Teacher, added “it is very difficult to teach children who have no food in their bellies. There has been a marked improvement among the pupils in terms of focus and concentration in class and there has been far less disruption and poor behaviour.
