Filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs) are a form of mechanical filter respirator that reduces the concentrations of hazardous particles inside the mask to a fraction of the concentrations outside. The entire mask body is made of filter material. The mask is a half-face mask, which means that it protects the chin, nose and mouth.[1] Different jurisdictions have different but functionally-equivalent standards, the most common being the N95 respirators of the United States, the FFP2 respirators of the European Union, and the KN95 respirators of China. However, slightly different criteria are used to certify their performance, such as the filter efficiency, test agent and flow rate, and permissible pressure drop.
