Senior government officials from both Hong Kong and mainland China officiated at the opening of Hong Kong’s new art museum M+ on November 11, 2021. The arts hub authority chairman Henry Tang Ying-yen said the museum will encourage the freedom of artistic expression while abiding by the national security law (NSL). After the NSL was imposed on the city in late June 2020, concerns have been raised on the artistic and curatorial freedom of the museum. M+ boasts 17,000 square metres (183,000 sq ft) of exhibition space and 6,413 pieces in its collection, spanning modern and contemporary art, design, architecture and moving images. The museum opened to the public on November 12.
